We were appointed by Stongvox Homes to support two full planning applications for a residential development in Wedmore, Somerset. The developments comprised a phase to the north and south of Blackford Road, comprising 40 and 14 dwellings respectively.

APPROACH

We initially provided feasibility advice on access opportunities for a proposed new residential development. Following this, planning applications were prepared and submitted in 2017. We prepared supporting documentation, including a Transport Assessment and access drawings. The Transport Assessment demonstrated that development could be accommodated safely on the local transport network.

As part of the proposals we redesigned the existing traffic calming on Blackford Road to provide appropriate access, address existing safety concerns, prioritise pedestrian movement and provide a scheme more in keeping with the character of a rural village. In addition, we provided detailed design advice with regard to the internal road layout and transport infrastructure.

Following submission of the planning application, we responded to comments from the Highway Authority. Subsequently, officers raised no objection to the development.

OUTCOME

The scheme was granted planning permission in 2018 and we have been retained by Strongvox homes to provide further transport input to subsequent phases of the development.
