PROJECT

Astley Gorse Solar Farm was granted planning permission by North Warwickshire Borough Council in July 2022. The development consists of a solar PV farm and battery energy storage plus ancillary infrastructure and equipment, landscaping and access.

APPROACH

TPA were appointed by Greenvolt to assist in the discharge of planning conditions and design the main Site access for the development. TPA produced a detailed design drawing pack and obtained a S278 license from Warwickshire County Council. Key to obtaining technical approval was to obtain Ordinary Watercourse Consent (OWC) from Warwickshire’s Flood Risk Management (FRM) Team. To obtain OWC, TPA had to replace the existing 225mm culvert with a new 600mm culvert. This required TPA to calculate flow rates and undertake drainage simulation.

Through the detailed design process, TPA liaised with National Grid to divert an existing High Voltage asset which was located within the Site access. This required Ground Penetrating Radar surveys and utility searches to be undertaken.

TPA also undertook a S59 Road Condition Survey as part of obtaining the S278 license.
