TRICS – otherwise known as the Trip Rate Information Computer System – is the system of multi-modal trip generation analysis for developments in the UK and Ireland, with great significance for transport consultants and their clients.
So, it pleases us here at Transport Planning Associates (TPA) to share that our own co-founding Director, Rupert Lyons, will be serving as Guest Chair at the TRICS User Meeting in the capital later this year. This news was recently announced by TRICS Consortium Limited, which markets and manages the TRICS system.
This year’s annual gathering of the TRICS Community in London will be the 28th overall. It is set to take place on Tuesday 25th November 2025, at a venue yet to be confirmed at the time of this article being written.
Formidable knowledge and experience in transport development planning
To say that Rupert is highly qualified for the Guest Chair role, would be quite the understatement. The holder of a Master of Science degree in Transportation Planning and Engineering from the University of Southampton, he has been a co-founding Director of TPA since 1997. He has also previously held positions at two large multidisciplinary consultancies, White Young Green (now part of Tetra Tech) and Ove Arup & Partners.
Rupert is also a Liveryman of the world’s oldest transport society, The Worshipful Company of Carmen, as well as a Freeman of the City of London, and a Patron of the London Transport Museum.
Of no less significance is Rupert’s in-depth experience of the development planning process around the UK. He has long engaged with such crucial elements of this process as site development feasibility studies, sustainable travel strategies, transport assessments, and travel planning, as well as the design and specification of highway and traffic management works.
A track record of providing invaluable transport planning advice
In his day-to-day role, Rupert provides advice to clients spanning the private and public sectors on the transportation infrastructure and services requirements of a variety of development and regeneration schemes.
Vital elements of his work include the preparation of transport assessments and travel plans, as well as negotiation of the scope and extent of transport infrastructure works to be carried out and/or financial contributions made in accordance with appropriate legal agreements between developers and local authorities.
Rupert also makes frequent appearances as an expert witness, and he has given evidence to both Houses of Parliament.
