NORFOLK AND NORWICH UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, NORWICH

PROJECT

As part of this project we were instructed to prepare a Transport Statement in support of the proposed new Orthopaedic Elective Care Centre to be built at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. This was to include a BREEAM assessment outlining the suitability of the site in achieving the necessary credits for BREEAM certification.

APPROACH

Our work began with an analysis into the existing facilities and amenities that benefit Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. We would use this information to outline the context of the site being suitably sustainable in it’s current state, whilst also detailing how the new development can be accommodated for by the existing services and provisions present.

Whilst the development was to be built on top of an existing car park, we were able to argue this net loss would not result in a significant impact to the overall parking provision of the site.

Our report would then focus on the forecast trip attractiveness of the development, outlining that there would be an immaterial increase in vehicle trips that could be easily accommodated for in the extensive car parks located around the hospital site.

The BREEAM credits were reviewed and our analysis highlighted that the site would be eligible to obtain the necessary sustainability credits, being ideally located close to public transport services and amenities within the hospital grounds.

OUTCOME

The application is under consideration by the local planning authority, however Norfolk County Council, as the Highway Authority, proposed no objection to the development on highways grounds.
