PROJECT
We were commissioned by Handford Homes Ltd, alongside Ipswich Borough Council, to provide transport planning services to support a planning application for a new Aquatics Centre located off Portman Road and Ipswich Town’s iconic stadium.
APPROACH
Pre-application scoping was carried out for a similar scheme to gain an understanding in what measures would be needed to progress such an application in full. This outlined the need to improve linkages to the existing public transport provision in the vicinity of the site, given that this is already well serviced to the benefit of the scheme and surrounding sporting facilities.
In response, we prepared a comprehensive Transport Statement and Travel Plan, which included technical work on trip analysis and parking improvements to reduce the impact on the local highway network.
OUTCOME
After presenting mitigation and improvement through our Transport Statement and Travel Plan, which included improved parking provision for larger coaches, refuse and servicing bay arrangements and access design, the scheme received approval with Resolution to Grant from the highway authority.
