PROJECT
We were approached by Wates Residential to support them with a scheme which sought to redevelop an existing underutilised town centre car park in partnership with Guildford Borough Council. The scheme comprised 248 dwellings comprising a mix of townhouses and flats including 40% affordable.
APPROACH
The project included a focus on active and sustainable travel, with the retention of the existing bus service through the site identified as a key constraint. We engaged proactively with Surrey County Council as the Highway Authority and Guildford Borough Council’s transport team. During these discussions it was agreed that active and sustainable travel connections to Surrey University and Guildford Town Centre were key developing the low parked scheme proposed.
In addition we engaged with Stagecoach as the existing bus operator to identify their requirements for the bus route and any traffic calming proposed within the site.
We prepared a series of reports to support the planning application, including a Transport Assessment, Outline Construction Logistics Plan, Outline Delivery and Servicing Plan, Parking Management Plan, Operational Waste Management Plan, and Travel Plan Statement. Subsequently we provided support to the client and project team through the post-submission negotiations with Surrey County Council.
OUTCOME
The Highway Authority were satisfied and Guildford Borough Council subsequently resolved to grant permission at committee.
