PROJECT

We were instructed by Greenacre School to consider the transport implications of a Section 73 Planning Application, which would vary a condition of the original planning permission and increase the number of pupils attending the school from 670 to 750. This was also to be supported by a Travel Plan.

APPROACH

A Transport Statement was submitted to the Highway Authority, which sought to assess the modal share characteristics of the school and how these additional trips might impact the capacity of the site and local road network.

It was determined that, after analysing the sustainable transport, extra-curricular activities before and after school, as well as the access arrangements for the site, the impact of these additional trips would be negligible and would not lead to a severe impact on the local highway network, most of which would be spread beyond the typical peak hours affecting the local highway.

This was supported by a Travel Plan that would look to implement active and sustainable travel measures to further reduce car journeys to and from the school.

OUTCOME

Along with a Technical Note to justify the negligible increase in traffic flows, we successfully demonstrated that the increase in pupil numbers would be negligible in transport terms and the school achieved its objective of altering the planning condition.
