PROJECT

We were instructed by Warwick Castle to provide transport planning consultancy services in relation to a planning application seeking permission for a new 60 bed themed hotel located on the existing castle car park and an extension to the existing restaurant at the Knight’s Village.

APPROACH

We worked with the project team to develop a layout that responded to the needs of the Client and the wider planning team. We undertook swept path analysis of the proposed servicing arrangement, justified the loss of parking for the Castle, and we provided advice relating to access by sustainable modes.

We prepared a Transport Statement and a Framework Travel Plan to support the planning application submission building upon our experience in both the leisure and hotel sectors.

Subsequently we prepared a Technical Note responding to the Highway Authority’s request for additional information relating to the anticipated trip rates, trip distribution and capacity analysis requests. We successfully argued that our approach was acceptable and that no capacity analysis was required to support the proposals, removing the Highway Authority’s holding objection.

OUTCOME

We successfully argued that the proposed hotel and extension of the existing Knight’s Village restaurant would not result in a discernible impact on the local highway network. A positive consultation response was received from the Local Highway Authority and planning permission was granted and the hotel has since been constructed and opened to the public in 2024.
