PROJECT
Proposed re-development of The Drapery (former Debenhams department store) in Leeds city centre to student accommodation consisting of 124 bed spaces. The retained retail/ commercial space on the ground floor and basement levels will provide a total gross floor area of 4,795 sq.m.
APPROACH
We provided a Transport Statement and a Travel Plan to support the planning application. The site is located in a pedestrianised area of Leeds city centre with restricted vehicle access. Multi-modal trip generations were calculated for the student accommodation which demonstrated that the development would generate a small amount of vehicular trips. The impact on the highway network was therefore predicted to not be severe.
There were no objections from Highways although a swept path analysis was required for the disabled bay(s), the only car parking space provided on-site. Cycle parking was provided for all residents within the building plus additional outside cycle stands for visitors.
OUTCOME
The development was granted planning consent in July 2021
