Through TPA’s London office’s Charity of the Year Partnership with the London Air Ambulance (LAA) Rupert Lyons and Damian Ford were lucky enough to be invited by Lucy Brooks, Corporate Development Manager for LAA, to visit the helipad at The Royal London Hospital to meet some of the team and to find out more about the operational side of the LAA.

While experiencing slightly windy and damp conditions on the helipad, some 17 storeys above London, Michael Horton, one of the Fireman who man the helipad and support the team, imparted a wealth of knowledge about the equipment carried on-board the helicopter  as well as how the whole team work to provide a vital service to the capital.

With the service operating 24 hours a day, through the helicopter and Rapid Response Cars, an average ‘mission’ costs approximately £1,500 and brings advanced pre-hospital care quickly to the most severe incidents within the M25.

A huge thank you to both Michael and Lucy as well as the rest of the team we were fortunate to meet for allowing us to gain an insight into their work and the lifesaving service they provide.
