PROJECT

The proposed redevelopment of the former Ravenscourt Park Hospital in west London seeks to deliver 140 high-quality new homes (comprising 21 affordable and 119 private flats), alongside a 65-bed care home and 1,171 m² of flexible community and commercial space.

The hospital has remained vacant since 2007. The development proposes to retain the existing access arrangements and safeguard access to the adjacent Chiswick Nursing Centre.

APPROACH

TPA was appointed to provide comprehensive transport planning advice to support the evolving proposals. This included a detailed review of site access arrangements—both for the proposed development and the Chiswick Nursing Centre—with particular attention to the ongoing use of the private road running through the site.

An initial planning submission was supported by a Healthy Streets Transport Assessment. TPA subsequently led multiple discussions with officers at the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham to address concerns raised around traffic impacts, servicing, and access for neighbouring residents and care facilities. The project team also engaged in public consultation.

In response to feedback from the Borough’s highways officers—particularly regarding on-site parking provision and refuse collection—TPA prepared a revised Transport Addendum and a Technical Note. These documents underpinned a revised planning application which removed general parking provision and introduced an amended servicing and refuse collection strategy.

OUTCOME

Our transport strategy successfully addressed the outstanding concerns and the revised proposals are scheduled to be considered at planning committee.
