PROJECT
We were instructed by Chessington World of Adventures Resort to support its proposed redevelopment of the ‘Wild Asia’ themed land within the theme park that included for the relocation of an existing ride, a new part indoor and outdoor rollercoaster, an indoor children’s ride, together with themed play areas and ancillary buildings for various purposes.
APPROACH
Building upon our previous experience with similar projects both at Chessington World of Adventures Resort and other Merlin attractions across the country, we prepared an evidence base that identified the potential impact of the project and how that could be mitigated. We provided a preliminary design responding to the conflict between an existing public right of way and the proposed relocated accesses to the rear of the site, and we provided support and advice in relation to the proposed cycle parking provision.
We prepared a Scoping Note and attended a pre-application meeting with officers from the Greater London Authority, Transport for London, and the Royal Borough of Kingston-Upon-Thames during which the scope and extent of the transport evidence required to support a future application was agreed.
We subsequently prepared a BREEAM Transport Statement to support the planning application which demonstrated that the proposals would not result in a significant increase in additional trips to the Resort. We successfully managed to anonymise client confidential data whilst still provided sufficient evidence to satisfy both the local Highway Authority and TfL.
OUTCOME
The application subsequently received unanimous support and planning permission subject to conditions was granted by the Royal Borough in May 2025.
